A fantastical turn-based RPG
The Last Spell is a role-playing game from Ishtar Games (formerly CCCP) where players are transported into a magical world where chaos and hordes of mutants run amok. In this fantasy game, players will have to find a way to banish these monsters by performing a powerful spell that will dispel all magic.
The Last Spell uses roguelite elements that give players an extra challenge, allowing them to polish their strategy-making and problem-solving skills. Similar to Wildermyth, you have to participate in turn-based combat where you need to choose the right set of skills, weapons, and items.
Prepare during the day
Rather than a stagnant setting where you simply have to focus on battling other units, The Last Spell has a 24-hour time period where you can train your troops and level up their stats during the day, then you have to face the numerous enemies that try to invade your city during the night. You also have to build structures to help provide resources and protect your land.
As previously mentioned, you have full access to a variety of resources to help you strengthen your defenses. Players also have the freedom to build classes and provide their characters with their own weapons and abilities, all of which will offer a unique play style and skill set. Plus, this turn-based RPG features a number of roguelite elements that make it even more thrilling to play.
Although there is some leeway that allows you to choose the difficulty level, these have a large gap that makes it difficult to find the right balance. While the easier levels are a breeze to manage, the harder levels are unnecessarily difficult to complete. There’s no middle ground that allows you to move past levels while still making sure you get that challenge you’re looking for.
In for a challenge
Overall, players can look forward to an extreme challenge in The Last Spell that allows them to mix and match their troops with varying weapons and artifacts to help them battle the unique enemy waves that come. Although the available difficulty levels in this RPG are pretty inconsistent, there are still a number of great features that make it worth checking out.
